Chapters: Prolgue-6 Prologue
A blizzard engulfed the snowy lands of the Arctic. The moon and stars were no longer visible against the cold, deep blue sky. If you looked up at the sky, in any weather, you wouldn’t even fathom the idea that the Ozone layer was thinning, and fast. However, in that moment, earth was dying. Humans were killing Earth with pollution from all of their cars, industries, and the pollution just from littering! Here, near the top of the world, a Raven tried to keep himself warm in spite of the blizzard. “I hate this weather.” He grunted to himself as he ruffled his glossy black feathers to keep him warmer. Like a bolt of lightning, a ray of light shown through the clouds and snow and down onto the ground right where Raven was standing. Startled, the bird shot into the air, but he was brought back to the ground from the mix of wind, snow, and ice. Snow was highlighted from the mysterious ray of light as a booming voice spoke. “Raven!” It rumbled. The bird blinked nervously, “Err…Yes?” “Raven you must seek out the wolf with the white pelt.” Said the voice. “A wolf?” Raven gulped. “Six from different lands will come together and save the planet from disaster…Only when the blood of six stains the polar ice red…earth will be reborn.” Oddly enough, Raven understood exactly what the voice was telling him to do. He was destined to find the white wolf, for she held the key to saving the future of the Earth.
Chapter 1 An Arctic wolf, named Flurry, was also braving the Arctic blizzard. Snow froze to her fur and stung her amber eyes. Freezing wind blew at her, and seemed to plaster her fur coat to her skin. Flurry lifted her head and saw, among the swiftly falling snowflakes, a Raven circling over-head. She stopped walking and the bird alighted down in front of the white wolf. “White wolf,” Said the bird, “I must talk to you.” Flurry looked down at the Raven while snow obscured her vision. “What is it?” She barked suspiciously, ravens were not the kind of bird you would trust, but this one seemed different somehow. “I have been searching for the Arctic wolf from a prophecy. So far, I’ve bothered five others, and three threatened to eat me. Tell me, do these words sound familiar?” Raven cawed, and then recited part of the prophecy, “Six from different lands will come together and save the planet from disaster…” Flurry froze in her place and her amber eyes grew wide. These words sent a shiver down her spine and made her paws tremble. Raven saw her reaction and sensed her connection to the prophecy, “You are a chosen one aren’t you?” He gasped. “I-I-I guess s-s-so.” Flurry stuttered. “W-w-what do I have to do?” Raven reviewed back to the prophecy, “You must find the other five wolves to help you save the planet.” Flurry nodded, then curled into a ball to sleep and tucked her nose under her tail. “I will begin my journey tomorrow.” She said as she closed her eyes. “Will you be coming too?” “Of course I will be.” Raven answered. He tucked his beak under his wing to sleep as the snowstorm slowly lost intensity. As they slept, Flurry wasn’t sure if she wanted to go on this journey the bird spoke of. What dangers could this trip hold? As sleep finally came, she pushed the thought to the back of her mind.
Chapter 2 A cold light spread across the land as Flurry and Raven began to awaken. Flurry yawned and rose to her feet. She shook her fur coat sleepily. Raven opened his eyes and wings and fluffed up his feathers. “Morning.” He cawed. “Morning Raven, shall I hunt for us?” She answered. Raven blinked in approval and Flurry headed out to hunt. She followed the trail of an Arctic hare for a few yards, then spotted it. It was munching on a twig of a small bush. Flurry began to stalk over to it. She increased her speed every so often until she was chasing after her prey across the tundra. Flurry held her pace, then pounced at just the right time, and dug her teeth into its neck. She was just about to carry her catch back to where Raven was, when she heard a sound coming from somewhere nearby. She looked up and in front of her was a building, a Scientific Research Base to be exact. Flurry perked her ears and listened to the people inside. “John!” Said a woman, “Look at this.” John studied the woman’s computer before speaking, “Wow! It looks like the Ozone layer is thinning fast, and global warming is getting worse.” “Might just be the end of the world.” The woman joked, not knowing how right she was. Flurry knew what they were talking about, the world was quietly dying, and only six wolves could save it. Flurry then knew that she had to go on this journey, find the other wolves, and save the planet. The white wolf ducked her head and carried the Arctic hare back to camp where Flurry and Raven had slept that night. Raven looked hungrily at the hare Flurry had caught before eating his share and giving the rest of the carcass to the wolf. “So, where do we go first?” Flurry barked. "I mean, which wolf do we find first?" Raven thingyed his head and blinked, "I'd say we cross the ocean and head to Russia, that's where we'll find the Gray wolf." Flurry nodded and finished her breakfast before the two set off on their journey to the edge of the ice.
Chapter 3 Flurry and Raven reached the end of the ice. They could look across the horizon and see the icy blue water all around them. “Now what?” Flurry growled. Raven spotted a shaft of ice about to break free from the continent, only a few yards away. “We could use that.” He cawed. Flurry trotted to where Raven pointed, and sniffed at it. She leapt onto it, and her weight forced it to break away completely and start sailing through the waters. “You’re right!” She called back to Raven. “Wait up!” Raven called and took to the skies. “How far will this take us?” Flurry woofed up to Raven who was flying over-head. “I’m not sure.” Raven gulped. This was a time that Raven was glad to have wings. As the ice shelf sailed through the Arctic Ocean, and began to get closer to Russia, the waves began to grow larger, the sky began to darken, and the wind blew dangerously. “Raven, what’s the weather status?” Flurry barked to the bird. Raven tilted his wings left then alighted down on the ice sheet next to Flurry. “There’s a bad storm coming.” He cawed. Flurry sniffed the air. Raven was right a terrible storm was coming. She sat down and hoped it would just pass them by. It didn’t. Ahead of them, a huge wave arose like a wall of water. “Flurry!” Raven cawed and flew safely into the air. The white wolf looked in front of her; a wall of water was hurtling towards her. She froze in fear and stared at the wave, it was like staring death in the face. Raven was safe and high in the sky, but Flurry was vulnerable on a shelf of slippery ice. The wave towered over Flurry, then slowly crashed on top of her. The impact sent her spinning under the water. Salty ocean water clogged her nose and ears and stung her eyes. She accidentally took a breath, and more water entered her lungs. Flurry was close to drowning. Raven dove into the water with outstretched talons and grabbed onto Flurry’s fur. He fought the current with all of his muscles to make it to the surface. He burst out of the water with Flurry in his talons. The wolf was unconscious and a heavy weight, even though Raven was strong for a bird. The bird flapped his wings and, half carried, half dragged, Flurry through the water. She can’t die…..she can’t… He cried to himself. The sea was still burning with fiery, and every second salty water splashed onto his face and stung his eyes. Without warning, a huge wave rose right below him. Water lapped at his feet so Raven flew higher. He tilted his head and saw that he and Flurry were riding on the top of a huge wave, bigger then the last. “Oh great.” He cawed and gripped as tight as he could onto Flurry’s fur with his talons. Give me strength! He prayed. Raven flapped his wings with all his might, “We’re not going to die!” He hissed, and flapped harder. Flurry was lifted out of the water and into the sky. Surprisingly, the white wolf weighed less when her body was out of the water. The moon began to rise from behind a dark gray storm cloud, Flurry began to awaken, and the wave crashed into the sea as the storm began to disappear. “W-w-w-what?” Flurry mumbled, “How am I flying?” “It’s ok, rest now.” Raven answered, “I’ve got you. We’re almost there.”
Chapter 4 The ground of Russia seemed to be cold like the snow back at her homeland, but it was dirt, and sometimes, even mud. Flurry’s paws were used to the feeling of snow and ice, so she had a hard time adjusting. Raven too had a hard time adjusting to the climate change; his feathers seemed glossy with sweat. “Where to now?” Flurry panted. “Russian wolves are usually in forests. They are great hunters.” Raven answered. “But, it will take too long for us to find the right forest, and then the right wolf.” Flurry yelped. Raven smiled, “That’s where you howl. You see, you are a chosen wolf. If you howl, other chosen wolves nearby will hear you and answer.” Flurry smiled and held her tail high, “I like being a chosen one.” Raven smiled back, and then tucked his beak under his wing. “I’m not sure you would like it for long.” He muttered, remembering the last part of the prophecy he had not told Flurry. She did not know, but she and the five other wolves were destined for death. Flurry and Raven began to walk through the plains of Russia. Some hills and marshes were scattered in places, which made walking difficult; Raven used his advantage of being a bird many times. Stray snow blew in their faces and stung their eyes. “How could any wolf stand this mud under their paws?” Flurry yelped. “Well,” Raven coughed, “Ask a Russia wolf why they hate the bitter cold of snow under their paws?” “I get it.” She growled. As they walked on, their paw prints behind them that were imprinted in snow were blown away by the wind. It looked as if they never set their paws on the new land. “You know why we’re having all this weather?” Flurry growled. “Global stupid warming! I heard two people talking about it at a research base back home.” Raven nodded, and somewhat ignored the white wolf. In spite of the flying snow, he could see a small forest on the horizon. “Flurry!” He cawed, “We’re here!”
Chapter 5 “Ready to howl?” Raven cawed as he flew up into a small, nearby tree. Flurry nodded and sat down. She lifted her nose and was about to howl, but a Mountain Lion, Vulture, and Wolf-like dog burst into the clearing and surrounded her and Raven. “We are ScarPack.” The mountain lion, named Moon, hissed. “We are ordered by Shadow to stop you, Protectors!” Flurry bared her fangs, “We will save Earth no matter what you do!” “We’ll see!” Moon snarled and launched herself at Flurry. The Vulture, named Stretch, charged at Raven, and the Wolf-like dog, Luna also leapt at Flurry. Flurry and Moon clashed with teeth and claws bared. Flurry raked her claws down Moon’s flank, then twisted her body and clamped her teeth down on Moon’s back leg. Moon hissed and grabbed Flurry by her scruff and shook her with all her might. Flurry fell to the ground, dizzy and disoriented. The Arctic wolf lay winded on the ground with blood staining her white fur. She shakily got to her feet again, and charged back into battle. Luna snarled and bared her teeth as she tried to snap at the wolf’s hind legs, Flurry dodged all her blows. Raven and Stretch squawked angrily at each other. Raven flew into the air and with outstretched talons charged down at Stretch. The vulture quickly ducked his head and tried to grab at Raven’s feet with his beak but missed. Raven tried dive-bombing Stretch again, and this time struck him in the eye. At that moment, a stocky gray wolf tore into the clearing and snarled, “STOP!” They all froze and looked at the Gray wolf, named Boulder. Moon, Stretch, and Luna stopped fighting and slowly began to slink away into the bushes. “We’ll find you. ScarPack will kill you, wherever you go!” Moon snarled. Luna looked back one last time at Boulder. Is there love at first sight? She thought. No, I can’t, I’m Shadow’s mate. She reminded herself and followed after Moon. “So, what’s the problem here?” Boulder growled circling Raven, and Flurry. “Before you kill us, tell me, how do you feel when I say this?” Raven squawked and repeating the beginning of the prophecy. “Six from different lands will come together, and save the planet from disaster…” Boulder blinked in confusion, and then remembered a voice that had said the same thing to him in a dream, not long ago. This time when the bird spoke, he knew he was also a chosen wolf. He was a Protector.
Chapter 6 “I know how we can get to Saudi-Arabia!” Boulder gasped, “Follow me!” Boulder led Flurry and Raven to a train station. There were three men loading up cargo into one of the cars of the train. One box had large, black words written on it, “Ship to Ar’ar, Saudi Arabia” it read. “That will take us where we want to go.” Boulder smiled. “All we have to do is sneak on it.” “Let’s do it!” Flurry bared her teeth excitedly. Raven spread his wings and flew to the train. When the three men had their backs turned, Raven silently flew in. Next was Boulder’s turn. He stalked up to the train, then hid behind a wooden crate. The men loaded two more boxes onto the train, and Boulder inched forward. The men turned their backs and Boulder leapt silently onto the train. Flurry waited for her turn. The last box was loaded onto the train and the three men headed to the warehouse to rest. Flurry began to make her way to the machine. As she got closer, it began to move. So to keep up, she ran. “Hurry!” Boulder called. “C’mon Flurry!” Raven cawed. Flurry ran as fast as she could, her feet only skimmed the ground as she darted alongside the train. Raven peeked out of the train, ahead of them he saw a bridge and a river below it. “Flurry!” She shouted, “Jump on now!” The Arctic wolf clenched her teeth, and jumped into the air. The rest seemed to happen in slow motion. Flurry’s paws landed on the floor of the train, but her back feet were hanging off and close to the ground. They were crossing the river now, if Flurry fell, they wouldn’t see her again. She dug her claws in as hard as she could, but she kept slipping. “Grab her!” Raven squawked and flew over Flurry’s head. He grabbed her by the scruff and pulled. Flurry was almost safe. Boulder reached out and pulled the Arctic wolf farther inside the train. Flurry’s back feet safely touched the floor of the machine. The two wolves lay panting on the floor and Raven stood by them, just as tried. “Thanks for saving me.” Flurry panted quietly. The train ride wasn’t as long as they would have expected, because they made it to Ar’ar in less then a day! Flurry opened her eyes as the train came to a stop. Boulder and Raven began to awaken, and they hopped down from the machine. Warm sand greeted their toes as they ran to find the nearest city. For that is where the Arabian wolf would be.

Chapters: 7-12 Chapter 7 Feather, an Arabian wolf chomped down angrily on the garbage she was eating. “Stupid people!” She snarled, “They take one look at me and they think I’m a menace.” The door to the house swung open and a German shepherd burst outside. “Get ‘em Buddy!” The owner yelled from the doorway, “Get that wolf away from our trash!” Feather’s eyes grew wide and she dropped the banana peel she was eating. Buddy sprang at her, but Feather jumped back and broke into a run. The dog darted after her. How am I going to get out of this? She snarled to herself. Feather ran down an alley, hoping to loose the dog, but he followed. Feather began to back up, but soon her back touched the cold wall at the end of the alleyway. At first, she felt fear, then anger. It was then, that she exploded. Feather launched herself at Buddy and barreled him onto the ground. She bit his ears and neck. The dog chomped down as hard as he could manage on Feather’s leg. Feather yowled in pain, and released her grip on Buddy. Their shadows danced on the alley wall as they fought. Feather grabbed at Buddy’s back and sank her teeth into his flesh. The German shepherd yowled in pain. Burning with rage, the dog twisted his body, grabbed onto Feather’s scruff, and threw her to the ground. He bared his fangs as Feather tried to get back to her feet. Buddy’s owner whistled and the dog ran back to his house, leaving Feather alone in the alley. Outside the city, Flurry and Boulder were getting ready to howl. They sat down in a circle, facing each other, closed their eyes, lifted their noses to the sky, and howled. Their song was long and mournful. Raven had to tuck his head under his wing to keep from tearing up. In an alleyway of the city, Feather heard them, and like it was beyond her control, began to follow their voices. Flurry lowered her head and opened her eyes. “How long until a chosen wolf shows up, if any are here?” She questioned. “It depends on a lot of things, like how far away the wolf is, its personality, and what it’s doing right now.” Raven answered. Flurry nodded, then sat down to wait. A few minutes passed, then she heard a noise come from behind her. Flurry and Boulder both spun around and saw a small, female Arabian wolf looking at them. Raven blinked and recited part of the prophecy, “Six from different lands will come together and save the planet from disaster…” At first, Feather looked at Raven strangely, but then the words began to sink in. The pupils of her eyes grew small, her fur began to tremble, and her legs became stiff. Raven, Flurry, and Boulder saw her reaction to the prophecy and they smiled. Raven was about to explain everything to this newcomer, but he didn’t need to. Just by hearing the prophecy, the wolf knew what to do. “I’ll come with you.” Feather woofed, as she slowly began to return to normal. “Good.” Flurry barked. “I’m Flurry, this is Raven and this is Boulder, what’s your name?” The Arabian wolf padded into the clearing and sat down in front of the animals. “I’m…Feather…” She replied. Chapter 8 Flurry, Feather, Raven and Boulder were now walking through the city without making a sound. People would stop and look at the non-native white wolf, black raven and gray wolf, and wonder why they were here. A little boy ran past them on the street and scampered into a small building that housed a church-like bell. “Oh no.” Feather woofed. “What?” Raven gulped. “There’s a sand storm coming.” The Arabian wolf answered. “That boy rushes up there when ever the people outside the city spot a sand storm coming.” The boy began to ring the bell. Flurry turned around, and saw a huge cloud of sand gaining on the city fast. “Run?” Feather questioned coolly. “Yeah!” Flurry yelled. The three wolves ran, and Raven flew. The wave of sand destroyed houses behind them, and people who were running were buried under three or more feet of sand. “Just out run it! These things don’t last long!” Feather yowled. They ran faster with the cloud of sand at their heels. Flurry panted heavily and began to grow tired. It was hard to run fast in a dessert when your paws kept sliding around in the sand, but Feather seemed used to that. She zipped way ahead of all of them. “Can’t…run…much…Farther…” She panted and collapsed onto the ground just as the sand settled back on the ground. The sand storm had ended. Flurry shakily got to her feet and shook loose sand from her fur. “Luckily that storm ended then and there, or you would have been buried!” Feather yelped. Raven alighted down between the three wolves. “You ok Flurry?” He cawed. “Yeah” Flurry answered, “Let’s continue on the journey. Raven where do we go next?” Raven closed his eyes and tilted his head side-ways. Where? He thought to himself. Then a voice seemed to answer him, America, it seemed to say. Raven opened his eyes and saw the three wolves looking at him oddly. “Where?” Boulder woofed. “America.” Raven blinked.
Chapter 9 “We should hunt tonight. Then tomorrow I think we should go to America.” Flurry woofed, as evening crept up on the land. “I’ll stay here and set up camp.” Feather volunteered and began creating sleeping nests for her comrades out of brush, leaves, and grasses. “Ok.” Raven flew out of the tree he was perched in and began to scan the ground for prey. Flurry and Boulder did the same. The moon began to climb through the sky. It was almost at its highest point when the three returned from their hunting trip. They had caught three rabbits, and one mouse. After eating, the moon was high in the sky. Its full, white face reflected silver light onto the ground as the stars twinkled around it. The three wolves sat down in a circle, facing each other, and pointed their noses to the full moon. Moonlight reflected and danced in their eyes. Then Flurry howled, Boulder and Feather did the same. It was on old tradition for wolves to sit in a circle like that, and sing to the moon as moon and starlight danced in their fur. The wolves kept their eyes open, they only blinked every so often, but the bright light from the moon did not hurt their eyes. Raven closed his eyes and settled down in his nest in the tree and soon fell asleep, listening to their peaceful songs. Once the wolves finished their songs, they “danced” under the moon. The wolves would run in circles as moonlight lit up the land. Every few moments they would look to the sky and howl. Once they finished, the wolves laid down in their nests Feather had made and curled up to sleep. Sleep came very quickly since the wolves were so tired from fighting and walking on the journey. Morning came and reflected its light off the snow. Boulder rose to his feet and stretched as the others did the same. “So, how are we gonna get to America?” Boulder yawned. “I’m still working on that.” Flurry woofed and sat down. “I know how we can get there.” Feather piped in. “How?” Raven stretched his wings. “We could sneak on a cargo plane. There’s a lot around here and they head straight for America. I usually go to their Airfields to get quick, free meals. They import and export a lot of tasty food.” The Arabian wolf answered. “Take us there, Feather.” Flurry ordered.
Chapter 10 “Here it is.” Feather pointed with her nose to an Airfield where humans were loading boxes into the cargo hold of the plane. “Hey, I say we kill all of those useless humans, sneak on, and then we get to America.” Boulder smiled and bared his fangs. “Maybe not kill them.” Raven grumbled. “Ok fine, stun them or what ever.” Boulder grunted and tore across the sand and into the Airfield. “Frank! Frank!” One of the men called to the man that Boulder was charging at, “Frank look out!” Frank turned, and dropped the box he was carrying and saw a stocky, gray wolf lunge at him. Boulder wrapped his jaws around his neck as Frank hit the ground with Boulder standing over him. Blood was oozing from the man’s neck and onto the ground. “What are we gonna do?” A man yelped. Boulder bared his fangs as Frank’s blood dripped onto the pavement from his mouth, and snarled. “Stupid animals have gone crazy! Run!” Another man yelled and high-tailed it for the warehouse with the others right behind him. “C’mon guys!” Boulder turned and called to his friends. “That didn’t seem like stunning to me.” Feather growled, looking down at the dead man. “Are we all loaded up?” The pilot called out of his cabin. “Quick! Grab the dead man!” Raven hissed, and then flew into the plane with Feather right behind him. Boulder and Flurry dragged the man inside the plane and hid him behind a large box. The wolves then took their hiding places as the pilot stepped out of the plane. “Strange.” He muttered and loaded up the last five boxes onto the plane, then closed the doors. “I’m definitely going to fire those guys.” He grumbled then returned to his cabin and started up the plane. “Are you guys sure they aren’t gonna find us and kill us?” Feather yipped. “No, but we’ll be ok.” Raven gulped nervously. “What if we get hungry?” Feather’s eyes grew wide at the thought of no food. Boulder smiled, “That’s ok. We can just eat the weakest member of this pack.” He smirked hungrily at Feather. “I’ll show you weak!: Feather snarled and leapt at Boulder. The gray wolf got to his feet, “Bring it runt!” He laughed. Feather grabbed onto Boulder’s ear and began tugging. Boulder quickly tossed the small wolf away with his paw. Feather fell to the ground and glared up at Boulder. “See? You are a runt.” “Ok, stop you two before the captain comes back here and finds three wolves and a bird hiding in the cargo hold of his plane! We’d be dead!” Flurry tried to calm down her comrades. Feather and Boulder shot each other angry glances, then padded to their side of the plane.
Chapter 11 The plane ride was long and boring. The wolves were restless and wanted to run around and howl, but if they did, the captain would hear and come back there and see a load of animals in his plane. That wouldn’t be good. “I-I-I-I don’t feel good.” Feather staggered around the plane, and stumbled over to Boulder. Boulder bared his fangs, “You are not barfing on me!” Feather was about to fall on him, but Boulder shoved her away with his paw. Feather toppled over onto the ground and shot Boulder a dirty look. Boulder returned the glance. “How long until you think we’re there?” Raven cawed. “How should I know?” Feather retorted. “I’d feel better if you’d just shut up!” Boulder snarled. “Well, I’d feel better if I didn’t have to look at your ugly face during this whole journey, but that ain’t gonna happen? SpiritPack don’t work miracles like that!” Feather started laughing. “Cool it guys. I know we’re growing irritable, but I bet it’s only a few more hours until we’re there.” Flurry tried to calm them down. Raven stretched his wings, then tucked his beak under them and fell asleep. Feather began to sniff around the packages to find some food. Flurry rolled her eyes at Feather’s obsession for food, then curled up and fell asleep. All of a sudden, she was awoken by a shrill wolf yelp. She was surprised the pilot hadn’t come back into the cargo hold then and there. Her eyes burst open and she saw Feather standing with her fur on end. "Sorry to wake you guys up." She gasped, "I just accidentally ran into the dead man." Flurry and Raven laughed and returned to sleep. “Weirdo.” Boulder growled, and then he too waited for sleep to come. More hours passed, and Flurry heard the doors to the plane slid open. The bright sunlight blinded her and her comrades as they began to awaken. “W-w-w-what?” Feather mumbled. Once Flurry's eyes adjusted to the light, she saw the pilot standing in the doorway, wide-eyed and mouth hanging agape. “W-w-w-WOLF!” He screamed. Boulder jumped to his feet and bared his dangerous teeth. Raven opened his wings and cawed, and Feather began to stalk closer to the man. Stunned, the man fainted and fell to the ground. "Well," Raven laughed. "That was easy." "Ok guys," Flurry howled, "Follow me!" She leapt out of the plane and onto the Airfield. Feather, Boulder and Raven followed her and they tore across the runway. These animals were no longer different and from different lands, now they were one. They were the pack of Protectors. They were FrostPack.
Chapter 12 They stopped running once they reached the forests of North Carolina. The ground felt different to all the wolves’ paws. The land was so different then their own homelands. “So, I guess we howl again, to get the chosen wolf’s attention-If there’s one here.” Boulder woofed. “Yeah because it’ll work three times as hard.” Feather growled. “Right.” Flurry replied sharply. The three wolves sat down in a circle facing each other, and gracefully lifted their noses to the sky, closed their eyes and howled. Three miles away, a Red wolf, named Preston heard the distant calls of wild wolves. He felt drawn to them, and wanted to follow them, but he couldn’t. He was stuck in a zoo. Angered, he threw himself at the fence separating him from freedom and gnawed at the wire walls. However, no matter how hard he bit, the fence would not budge. Instead, he lifted his head to the sky and howled back. “Hear that?” Flurry perked her ears, “A wolf howled back. He could be a chosen one!” Raven flapped his wings, “She’s right. We should follow the wolf’s howls.” He flew in the air and circled around the wolves, waiting for them to agree. Feather and Boulder both nodded, “We’re in.” “Ok.” Flurry rose to her feet, “Let’s run!” They ran swiftly and quietly, only the sound of their panting could be heard. Their feet barely touched the ground, and their tails lashed out excitedly behind them. Wolves can hold a pace of forty miles per hour for up to a twenty mile range, therefore, running super fast for only three miles was nothing for them. As they ran through the streets, people turned and stared in wonder as they passed. “Mommy!” A little girl tugged at her mother’s shirt, “Mommy look at the doggies!” “Yeah, that’s wonderful honey.” Her mother ignored her and kept on sipping her coffee and reading the newspaper on an outside table at a “Starbucks.” Soon the sounds and smells of captive animals filled the air as they neared the zoo. “Oh great SpiritPack!” Feather shouted, “That smells horrible!” The wolves came to a stop outside the zoo and hid in bushes next to the ticket window. “That is what it smells like to be captive stupid!” Boulder growled. “This is where the wolf is.” Flurry barked. “We need to help him escape.” Boulder smiled, "Phase one, get the stinky humans out of here is going into action." "Boulder wait-" Flurry called, but the gray wolf already burst through the doorway. He bared his teeth and snarled as loud as he could. People turned, screamed, and fled to the doorway at the sight of the wolf. "Yeah, that's right! Run you cowards!" Boulder laughed. A male and female zoo worker ran up to Boulder, The male had a long stick in his hands with a rope at the end of it. He kept trying to put it around the wolf's neck. The woman carried a gun, a tranquilizer gun. "Go!" Boulder shouted as the woman shot a dart at him. Boulder fell to the ground, and the man was just about to hook the rope around the wolf's neck when Flurry, Feather, and Raven burst through the doorway. "Get 'em!" Flurry ordered. Feather launched herself at the man and bit as hard she could on his face. He fell to the ground frozen with fear. Blood stained Feather's mouth. Raven flew above the woman's head and began dive-bombing her with his talons. Blood dripped from a wound on the side of her face. Frightened, she dropped the gun and fled. "Good job. You two stay here and guard Boulder. He'll be ok. That was only a tranquilizer gun." Flurry ordered and began trotting through the empty zoo to find a wolf exhibit. Raven few into the air above Boulder, and yanked the dart out of his shoulder. The gray wolf slowly began to awaken. “Hey sleepy head.” Feather laughed, “Who’s weaker now?”

Chapters: 13-21 Chapter 13 Flurry heard growling and rattling of a chain-link fence. She turned the corner and found herself looking at a Red wolf exhibit. The wolf, named Preston, jumped back to the ground and looked at Flurry. The Arctic wolf knew just what to say. She repeated the part of the prophecy that Raven had told her. Preston froze and began to pace his exhibit grounds and leap at the fence, trying to escape. “Are you a Protector, like me?” Flurry lowered her head. Preston closed his eyes, “I guess I am.” Then he sat down in his exhibit. “Let me get you out of there.” Flurry replied and began gnawing at the fence. “Already tried that, doesn’t work.” He mumbled. Flurry thought for a second, "I know!" She exclaimed, "We can dig you out of there." "Ok." The Red wolf replied and began to dig a hole on his side of the fence as Flurry did the same on her side. "Ok. You can slide out now." Flurry woofed. Preston lowered his body and began to pull himself under the fence and to the other side. After a few minutes, he was free. "C'mon." Flurry ordered. "You should meet the others." “This is Raven,” Flurry introduced Preston to the others, “This is Boulder, this is Feather, and I am Flurry.” “Hi, I’m Preston.” The red wolf replied. Feather’s eyes twinkled mysteriously and she fiddled with her paws in the dirt. Flurry noticed her reaction and padded over to her. “You like him.” She whispered in Feather’s ear. Feather’s eyes grew wide with embarrassment, “I do not! What a suggestion!” She snarled quietly so Preston wouldn’t hear. “Mhhmmm.” Flurry smiled and then padded over to Raven. “Where to next Raven?” She woofed. “We could travel west for a while, and see if there is any wolf there. But you are the leader of FrostPack, you make the decisions.” Raven replied. “Ok. But I still like to check with you.” Flurry smiled. The Arctic wolf trotted to the middle of the group, then made her announcement. “FrostPack,” She began, “We will travel west for two days, to see if any chosen wolf is there, then we will travel north for three more and check again for Protectors. We leave now.” Flurry yowled. The wolves got to their feet and followed after Flurry. Raven spread his wings and flew over-head of Flurry’s pack.
Chapter 14 FrostPack trotted along, conserving their energy for when they would need it most. Flurry took the lead, since she was the leader. Boulder was second and lastly came Preston and Feather who trotted next to each other and talked like old pals. Above their heads, Raven flapped his wings and glided through the air. All of a sudden, a giant cat, a cougar, leapt in front of Flurry. The wolves halted and Raven alighted down by Boulder. “Holy Crap!” Preston yowled and inched closer to Feather. The cougar, named Link, licked her lips and stared at Raven. Boulder saw her action and stepped in front of the bird. Preston and Feather walked over to Flurry and stood beside her. “Hand over the bird!” Link snarled. “You’re not getting this bird!” Feather bared her fangs. Link unsheathed her claws and began to stalk over to the wolves, “If you don’t hand that useless bird over to me, I will kill you and spread your guts out all over the forest for every animal to see. But hand over the bird now, and I will spare your lives.” “You can do what you want to us, you won’t get Raven!” Flurry leapt forward and bared her large teeth. “Very well then,” Link hissed at the wolves, “You get to see what your insides look like.” Link pounced at the wolves. Raven and Preston jumped back, and Preston took guard duty. Feather, Boulder, and Flurry jumped forward. Flurry snapped at Link’s feet, but the wild cat quickly shoved the wolf away. The Arctic wolf tumbled onto the ground and bounced a few feet before coming to a stop. She staggered to her feet and waited for her chance to strike again. Boulder leapt onto the Cougar’s back and dug his teeth in as far as they could go. Link’s eyes grew wide and she yowled in pain. “What now loser?!” Boulder snarled to the cat. “How ‘bout this?” Link hissed and fell onto her back, purposely crushing the wolf under her weight. “Oh yeah?” Feather snarled, “No one can beat up Boulder, but me!” Feather grabbed onto the Cougar’s tail and tugged. Link jolted to her feet and swatted Feather with her paw, claws unsheathed and deadly. Feather fell to the ground a few feet away. Blood covered one side of her face and she moaned in pain. Boulder quickly crept away and over to Feather. “Get up!” He gasped, “Please!” Feather lay motionless. Flurry charged at the beast. This time her teeth dug deeply into Link’s shoulder. Blood splattered the ground. Link tried to swat Flurry away with her paw, but the white wolf dodged and lunged again. Her teeth and claws raked down the cats’ flank. Flurry twisted her body and bit down hard onto Link’s back until she could taste wild cat blood. Knowing the cat was beaten, Flurry released her grip as the she-cat slunk back into the shadows of the forest. “Everyone ok?” She panted, turning to her friends. Feather rose to her feet, “Yeah.” She answered shakily. “We are.” The rest of the Pack answered. “Good.” Flurry woofed. “Let’s keep moving. Night is coming and we’ll need to sleep and eat, and Feather, we’ll need to give your wounds time to heal somewhere safe.” “I’ll be fine until tonight.” She woofed. “Ok.” Flurry raised her tail high. “Let’s keep moving.”
Chapter 15 The wolves continued walking, and night came upon the land like a wave. First, the sky changed colors, then the stars began to appear, then the moon began to rise. Tonight the moon was no longer full, but it still shed its silver light across the forest. “We will hunt and sleep here tonight.” Flurry announced. “I will stay here and set up camp. Feather you should stay here too and let your wounds heal. The rest of you will go hunting.” Feather nodded and sat down on the forest floor and began licking her wounds. Preston, Boulder, and Raven headed out for the hunting trip. Flurry began to create four nests for the wolves, and one small one for Raven. Once the hunting patrol returned, the pack ate happily and laughed like old friends. Feather and Preston sat next to each other and shared two rabbits. No one could see, but behind them, their tails were wagging happily. Boulder sat next to Flurry and Raven and they all laughed at a joke the bird had made. After eating, the FrostPack wolves settled down in their nests and slept with the moon standing guard over them that night. * * * * * The sun rose and dew covered the grasses of the forest. Sunlight warmed the wolves’ backs as they began to awaken. They rose to their feet and shook dew from their fur and stretched and yawned the sleep away. “Your wounds are healed!” Preston smiled to Feather. Feather nodded back happily. “Let’s head out!” Flurry ordered after she stretched. Boulder jumped to his feet and yawned, “I’m ready.” FrostPack then headed out for another day of traveling. After walking for about ten miles, they didn’t know it but, they had crossed into the state of Tennessee. They kept walking until they came to a highway. Cars zoomed by as fast as lightning and the choking smell of exhaust filled the air. “How are we going to cross that?” Preston shouted over the roar of an engine. “Run fast!” Boulder retorted. “Hey!” A small gray squirrel ran up to the wolves. “Hey, are you gonna try and cross the Road of Death?” The squirrel named Twitch fidgeted. “Road of Death?” Feather gulped. “Yeah, last week that road took Uncle Jim. Poor bloody fellow.” The squirrel twitched again. “Well, we’re crossing, and we’ll make it across in one piece.” Flurry growled and bared her teeth. “Now scram spaz!” “Ok, ok then, get yourselves killed. Hey, say hi to Uncle Jim for me eh?” Twitch ran away into the bushes with his tail fluffed out behind him. Feather gulped, “Are you sure we have to cross?- YES!” Flurry interrupted the Arabian wolf. Feather dipped her head, and stuck her tail between her legs. “Ok, sorry.” She woofed. “Get ready to cross!” Flurry ordered, as her muscles tensed. Another car sped by and the wind it created ruffled Flurry’s fur, but she didn’t budge or flinch. “Run! Run now!” She shouted and tore across the highway. Raven flew into the air and flapped his wings after Flurry. The other wolves ran across also. Flurry leapt onto the grasses on the other side of the highway. She sat down nervously and watched her friends catching up to her. Raven made it safely to the other side, just as a car almost took out his tail feathers. Next came Boulder. He thundered across the street and made it across to the other side safely. He sat down on the grass and panted heavily. Now it was Feather and Preston’s turn. The two wolves were running side-by-side when a car went speeding right towards them. Feather froze in fear. “Run!” Preston ordered, but Feather didn’t budge. “C’mon!” Preston ordered again. Feather didn’t move. Preston shoved Feather to safety and the car came hurtling towards him. He closed his eyes, clenched his teeth, and tucked his tail under his body as the car screeched to a stop in front of him. He opened his eyes, I’m safe! He yelped and ran to the grass where his pack mates were. “You would have given your life for me? Why?” Feather gasped. “Well, that’s what you do when you love someone.” Preston answered as he buried his face in her fur and breathed in her sweet scent. “I won’t let anything happen to you.” He cried.
Chapter 16 FrostPack continued walking west. It seemed as if nothing could stop them, not highways, not wind, not rain. They kept on walking until they felt like the pads on their paws would fall off. But of course, something always stops the described, “unstoppable”, and that was where ScarPack came in. They slinked out of the forest like shadows. Silent, cunning and invisible. They began to circle FrostPack. This time, only Midnight, Moon and Luna were there. “Well, well, well, we meet again.” Moon laughed. Preston placed his tail on Feather’s shoulder, a sign of protection, and Feather moved closer to him. Boulder bared his deadly fangs. Flurry stared angrily at Moon and her comrades, and Raven out-spread his wings, showing how big he could be. Luna looked at Boulder, How can I tell him? She thought to herself. Midnight and Moon began to corner Preston and Feather. Luna moved closer to Flurry and Boulder. Boulder looked at Luna. Wow, she is beautiful. He thought to himself. Luna stalked up to Flurry, “Play along.” She whispered in her ear. Flurry nodded and signaled to Boulder to do the same. Boulder nodded. Luna smiled, then lunged at Flurry and pinned her to the ground. Boulder knew it was acting, so he changed his course and barreled into Midnight, an Indian wolf, and the two fell to the ground and fought. Moon lunged at Feather, but Preston blocked her blow and snapped at the cat’s feet. Raven began to dive-bomb Moon, but he was swatted away with the cat’s huge paws. Raven fell to the ground, stunned. Luna let Flurry up, “Sorry for knocking you over. I-I-I would like to join your pack. I want the world to be saved, not killed.” Luna lowered her head. “Ehh, can we talk about this later? It’s time for me to teach some animals a lesson!” Flurry woofed and charged into battle. Luna nodded, then jumped in to help her. Flurry leapt onto Moons’ back and wrapped her jaws around the Mountain lion’s neck. She bit down hard and fast. Moon hissed and tried to flip Flurry off her back as Preston snapped at the cats’ feet. Feather was on the left side of the lion and was biting and clawing at the cats’ flank. Boulder was pinned down and Midnight was on top, ready to rip off his fur.. Luna saw her chance and jumped at Midnight, pulling her off Boulder and allowing the Gray wolf to get to his feet. “Thanks.” Boulder mouthed to Luna then pounced on top of Midnight and clawed her underbelly until wet, warm blood was all he felt. Moon snarled and whipped around and clamped her huge dagger-like teeth onto Feather’s shoulder. The Arabian wolf yelped in pain as Moon threw her to the ground. “No!” Preston snarled and ran over to Feather’s body. “Don’t…worry..” She panted, “Fight..” Moon slammed her back onto a Maple tree then turned around. Flurry, who was on her back, fell to the ground, winded. The wild cat was about to finish her off when Preston leapt onto Moon’s back and bit as hard as he could. Taken by surprise, Moon yowled to the skies, “RETREAT!” Preston let go of the cat and jumped to the ground as ScarPack melted back into the shadows. “Come now Luna!” Midnight growled. “No,” Luna replied firmly, I want to save the world, not see it destroyed.” “Fine.” Midnight growled. “Then the next time a see you, it will be in battle.” Flurry trotted over to Feather, ‘C’mon. You can’t die now.” She whispered to the second wolf to join the journey. Preston limped over to her and began to lick her wounds, “Don’t leave me,” He cried, “I won’t let SpiritPack take you.” “I’m….Not …Leaving you…” She rasped. Boulder and Luna walked over and sat down next to their leader, Flurry, and began to lick their own wounds. Raven hopped over and sat down next to Flurry. “Hey.” he coughed. “Hey.” Flurry answered and licked the top of his head. “I’m glad we didn’t loose any pack members.” She sighed. “Yeah.” Raven agreed. Rain began to fall and wash the blood away from the battlefield as FrostPack rested and began to lick their wounds.
Chapter 17 Lightning danced across the sky, thunder rolled, and rain poured down on the wolves as they walked. It was now too dangerous for Raven to fly, so he rode on Flurry’s back and held onto her fur with his talons. Another bolt of lightning struck the sky and lit up the lands. Thunder followed directly after it, shaking the earth to its’ core. Lightning came again and reflected in their eyes and turned their fur bright red for a moment. Wind sliced at their pelts, and rain soaked them to the bone. The wolves did not know that all these storms they had endured were just the beginning, they were leading up to the second Ice Age. Storms would come and terrorize the land until a freezing cold front would come, and freeze every thing. Any animals or people, not accustomed to the cold would die. Rain pounded the earth, but the pack walked on, with the fate of the world on their shoulders. Soon, Flurry could hear the roar and gargle of a river. “Raven,” She whispered. “Do you hear that?” Raven tilted his head side-ways and listened, “Yeah. It sounds like a river, a large one at that.” He answered. Flurry nodded in agreement then turned her head to Preston. Lightning danced across the sky and glistened in their eyes, rain kept coming down as the thunder came again. “Preston,” Flurry woofed. “Do you know if there is a river around here?” Preston nodded, “Yeah there’s the Mississippi River. I hear people talking about it a lot at the zoo. It’s the second largest river in the world with a length of 2,340 miles long, about a mile wide in some places.” Preston saw Boulder looking at him strangely, “What? You learn a lot in the zoo.” He woofed to Boulder. “Yeah, accept how to be normal.” Boulder laughed. “Thank you Preston. That information will be helpful to us when we cross the river.” Flurry shot a deadly glance at Boulder, he lowered his head and kept walking next to Luna. “It might not be a good idea to cross it!” Preston gulped, “At the zoo, I’ve also heard about how many people died on that river. It’s beautiful, but deadly.” “We’re crossing it, today.” Flurry growled and looked back at the Red wolf. Preston closed his mouth and looked wide-eyed at Flurry, who looked like she was about to attack him. “Ok.” He wheezed. FrostPack kept walking with the storm battering the earth like a hammer. The roar of the Mississippi river grew louder with every step they took.
Chapter 18 FrostPack reached the Mississippi River. Water rushed past small stepping-stones and crashed against the shore. It was still too dangerous for Raven to fly, so he held on tighter to Flurry’s fur as she stepped into the water. The water level was up to Flurry’s knees, and she kept walking until her feet couldn’t touch the bottom and she had to swim. “Why don’t we use the stepping-stones?” Boulder called to his leader. “Because, the rocks will be very slippery, and we’ll fall and injure ourselves. Flurry called back. Boulder nodded in understanding. “We have to cross that?” Preston gulped. “Yes.” Boulder growled, he was as nervous as Preston was. Lightning struck and thunder rolled once again, but Flurry wasn’t stunned, she kept on swimming. The current began to pull Flurry downstream. Her eyes grew wide as she kicked with her legs to try to remain in her place. She reared up on her hind legs and dug her claws into the riverbed. She was still being pulled downstream. Raven flew low, above Flurry’s head, grabbed her scruff, and began pulling her towards shore. “I saved you once, I’ll do it again.” He coughed and pulled harder until Flurry had regained her balance and was able to swim on her own. Raven cawed, then alighted down on Flurry’s head like a look-out. They were now in the middle of the river, as Feather, Boulder, Luna, and Preston began to follow Flurry and Raven into the river. Whenever Feather was about to be pulled down stream from the rivers’ strong current, Preston grabbed her and pulled her back beside him with his teeth. Whenever Boulder felt like the current was trying to take him, he just clenched his teeth and kept on swimming next to Luna. They were almost to the other side of the river, just a few more feet. Raven looked behind him and saw all the wolves who were coming on the journey, then looked down at Flurry. They all care about the future of the earth. He sighed. The storm began to pick up intensity as the pack reached the other side of the river. They happily climbed onto the riverbank and shook water from their pelts-although it was useless because rain was still coming down. “Where to next?” Luna woofed. “To the forest, there we will all howl and hope a chosen wolf hears us.” Flurry ordered.
Chapter 19 Flurry, Boulder, Preston, and Feather sat down in a circle, facing each other. The wolves didn’t know it, but they had made it to the forests of Arkansas. Luna and Raven sat down on the sidelines as the chosen wolves began to howl to locate another chosen one. A few miles away, a Mexican wolf, named Bone, heard the howls. He quickly jumped to his feet. “Bone?” His mother, the pack beta, woofed “What’s wrong?” Bone looked in the direction the howls were coming from, “I think something is calling me.” He answered. “I’m going to investigate.” “Ok, be back soon though.” His mother replied and headed for the beta den as Bone headed out of the camp, following the voices of the Protectors. Flurry and the rest of the wolves lowered their heads and waited, to see if any wolf would show. Soon, they heard movement in the bushes behind them. “It’s a bear!” Feather yelped and leapt behind Preston. “No.” Flurry woofed as the Mexican wolf moved out from behind the bushes, “It’s a wolf.” “Umm, hi.” Bone woofed shyly. Raven quickly flew over to the visitor and recited part of the prophecy. “Six from different lands will come together and save the planet from disaster…” Raven looked at the wolf, and waited for his reaction. He smiled when he saw the wolf react the same way all the others had. Bone, at first stared down at the Raven in confusion. “What?” He growled, then his legs began to tremble, his eyes grew wide, and his fur stood on end. His raised his head to howl, and the others howled too. They had found the fifth chosen wolf. Just one more wolf…One more…” Flurry thought to herself.
Chapter 20 “Can I say good-bye to my family?” Bone questioned as FrostPack trotted through the forest. “You may.” Flurry answered, “Just don’t take too long. We’ve got a planet to save.” Bone nodded and pushed his way through the undergrowth until he appeared in his pack’s camp. FrostPack followed him. “Bone!” His mother barked, “Who are your friends?” “Mom, this is Feather, Boulder, Luna, Raven, Preston, and Flurry. Guys, this is my mom Crystal. Mom, these wolves are Protectors, chosen to save the Earth, and they think I’m one of them.” Bone introduced them to each other. “They think?” His mother growled. “Well, I think I am one too, and I’m going to travel with them, to protect the future of our planet.” Bone replied firmly. Bone’s mother ducked her head, “You are old enough to be a lone wolf.” Crystal sighed and licked her son. The whole pack stopped what they were doing and said good-bye to Bone. “Bye!” Twister, Bone’s best friend licked his friend. “Bye man.” Bone returned the gesture. “Bye son.” said Bone’s father, Snow. “I love you dad, bye.” Bone cried. “Enough of this gooey shi-show of emotion.” Boulder growled annoyed. Bone’s father smiled at Boulder, then finished his sentence. “Go out there and save the world.” Bone smiled back, and then set off north with his new pack to save the Earth. As they walked, the thunder became louder until it shook the land as if there was an earthquake. The ground under their feet changed to pavement as they entered a city. Around them, the sky turned a sickly green color and tornadoes began to form in the clouds. Flurry looked up at the sky. She saw a black cone shape coming down onto the ground. She looked around and saw more touching down in other places in the city. Humans ran in terror and screamed as the tornado sirens began to sound throughout the city. Wind ruffled the wolf’s fur as the tornadoes tore through Arkansas. “Run!” Flurry ordered, “Run and don’t stop!!” The Arctic wolf began to run with a frightened raven riding on her back. Feather and Preston ran side-by-side dodging flying objects as Boulder and Luna did the same. Boulder and Luna ducked just as a car flew right over their heads. “Wow.” Boulder gasped. “Keep moving!” Flurry ordered. All of a sudden, a weight was lifted from her back. She looked back and saw Raven being pulled into the air and into the tornado by the strong wind. “Raven!” Flurry shouted as she watched in terror as the bird went wide-eyed through the air.
Chapter 21 As quick as the storm had come, it disappeared back into the clouds and the wolves were safe once again. “Should we search for him?” Luna yelped. Flurry closed her eyes and thought what Raven would do. She knew he would tell her to keep moving…to save the world… “No, I know he’d want us too keep moving. So that is what we’ll do. Keep traveling.” The wolves walked on, climbing over debris scattered by the storm. Buildings were brought to the ground, and people were crushed by falling, and flying objects. All that remained of the city were a few small, homes. Flurry jumped onto the hood of a crushed car, and there she saw him, Raven lying dead on the ground. She quickly leapt off the car and sat down next to her dead friend. Feather, Preston, Boulder, Luna and Bone sat down beside Flurry. The white wolf closed her wide amber eyes, lifted her nose to the darkened sky and howled. The others did the same. Their song was long and mournful, it was the song of death. After paying their respects to Raven, Flurry rose to her feet on shaky legs. “We go now.” Her voice quivered. “We will head north, then sneak onto another train to make our trip not so long. Then, once we find the sixth wolf maybe earth will be saved.” However, Flurry did not yet know about the second part of the prophecy, the part Raven had kept secret from her. “…Only when the blood of six, stains the polar ice red, earth will be reborn.” FrostPack would not know what to do after they located the sixth wolf, unless they heard the whole prophecy. Flurry led her pack to another train station. It was easy to find because of the smell of gasoline. “Should I take care of the humans again?” Boulder smiled baring his large teeth. “No.” Flurry ordered. “We will wait until the humans are done loading up the train, then we’ll sneak on.” “That’s no fun.” Boulder grumbled, but lowered his head in agreement. The humans loaded up the last of the boxes, then headed to the front of the train. They got on and the Engineer started up the machine. “Now!” Flurry yowled and charged at the train with FrostPack running beside her. The wolves leapt onto the train, just in time as it pulled out of the station.

Chapters: 22-28 (end) Chapter 22 “…Six from different lands will come together and save the planet from disaster...Only when the blood of six stains the polar ice red, earth will be reborn….” Flurry jolted awake after a mysterious and raspy voice spoke in her dream. It had repeated the prophecy, but also a part that Flurry had never heard. Is there a second part of the prophecy…a part that Raven didn’t tell us? She wondered in her mind. Feather saw Flurry’s restlessness and padded over to her. “What’s up Flurry?” She woofed. “I-I-I dreamt about the prophecy…But there was more too it… Raven didn’t tell us all of it.” Flurry whispered. “What was the rest of the prophecy?” Flurry retraced the words back in her head, “…Only when the blood of six stains the polar ice red, earth will be reborn.” She answered. Feather’s eyes grew wide at the words, “Well, maybe Raven was trying to protect you. He probably doesn’t want to see you get killed.” Feather thought aloud. “If this is part of the prophecy,” Flurry lowered her voice and her head, “I think we all are destined for death at the end of this journey.” Boulder and Luna curled up next to each other, nervous about what was to happen next on the journey and to the world. Bone sat down next to Preston and the two laughed at jokes, trying to lighten up the atmosphere. Feather lay down next to her leader to comfort her. “I’m here.” Feather woofed, “I’m not leaving.” The train chugged along, headed north. Every time the train hit a bump, Flurry would jerk awake, hoping Raven was coming back. Outside, the clouds remained dark and low. Thunder grumbled like a hungry bear every few seconds. The wolves slept in the train as yet another day passed. They lived off raw meat the humans had in boxes on the train. FrostPack remained restless on their trip. They slept most of the time, but sometimes wrestled, being very careful not to roll out of the train and onto the ground, where they would be left behind. The second day came. The sun rose and shown its light in the car where FrostPack slept. Flurry opened her eyes. Another day. She thought, and then yawned. Around her, her pack began to awaken. The train began to slow down until it came to a complete stop. Flurry got to her feet. “It’s time to go.” She ordered and leapt down from the train. Her pack followed her. They ran, as far away from the train as possible. Their shadows stretched out behind them like giants and their breath came out like fog as they panted and ran on. The wolves didn’t know it, but they had reached that state of Wisconsin.
Chapter 23 Flurry lifted her nose to howl, and the other four chosen wolves did the same. Luna sat on the sidelines and listened to their song. Their howls echoed through the land and into the ears of a black female wolf, named Storm. Storm was the omega, lowest at rank, to a small pack. She too felt drawn to the wolf’s voices. No one was in camp, except for the pack beta. Storm trotted over to the beta’s den and peeked her head inside. “Birch?” She panted. “Yes Storm?” Birch replied, “What is it?” “Birch, I would like to leave the pack.” Storm answered, her green eyes shining. * * * * * “I don’t think there is any chosen wolf here.” Bone woofed. “Yeah, wouldn’t one have come by now, or at least replied?” Feather yelped. “..It depends…” Flurry replied, remembering what Raven had told her. At that moment a howl broke out through the land and a black she-wolf burst into the clearing. Flurry looked at Storm and then repeated the prophecy, this time the whole prophecy, “Six from different lands will come together and save the planet from disaster...Only when the blood of six stains the polar ice red, earth will be reborn…” Every wolf in Flurry’s pack, including herself and the newcomer and excluding Luna, froze. Their eyes grew wide, some breathed hard as if in a trance, others bared their teeth and snarled, some paced the forest floor. The six wolves raised their noses to the air and howled. Six from different lands had come together. Flurry knew exactly where to go next, polar ice was located on the top of the world, on the North Pole, by her homeland. If they traveled there maybe, the rest of the prophecy would fall into place.
Chapter 24 Flurry began to lead her pack to the North Pole. She was wondering how they would cross the oceans without drowning and freezing to death. Her answer came to her after a few more days of traveling. More snowstorms came and chilled the wolves almost to their bones. The second Ice Age was coming, and only FrostPack could stop it if they made it in time to the North Pole. “It’s freezing out here!” Feather clenched her teeth. Snow froze to the ends of her fur and made her much colder. Preston moved closer to her and pressed his pelt against hers. “No duh Feather.” Boulder growled, “The second Ice Age is upon us!” Feather made a face at Boulder, but kept on walking. The seven wolves walked in a line; Flurry in the lead, Bone behind her, then Preston and Flurry, then Storm, and lastly came Boulder and Luna. Luna looked behind her back. She squinted through the snow and saw a wave coming towards them. It was the cold front that would freeze everything in its path. It kept gaining on them. “Everyone!” Luna yowled, “Get in a circle, we need to keep each other warm!” The wolves saw what Luna was talking about and quickly sat down in a circle and huddled together. Their pelts brushed the wolf’s pelt next to them and warmed them up a bit. The front passed over them. The wolves felt bitter cold try to penetrate their bodies, but they stayed where they were, and kept each other warm. Bone looked at the snow below and saw it freeze instantly under their paws. He stared at the ground in wonder. Once FrostPack was certain another cold front wasn’t coming, they staggered to their feet and began walking again. The snow was no longer deep and tiring to walk through, now it was ice, and very slippery. Behind them, their paw prints were imprinted in the frozen ground, like fossils. Night came, but you couldn’t see the moon because of the thick, gray clouds blocking out the sky. “I’m hungry.” Storm complained, “But there’s nothing to eat. Everything is frozen and dead.” “We could eat Feather.” Boulder laughed. “Again, I’m too small to eat. I’m a “runt” aren’t I Boulder?” The Arabian wolf bared her fangs at the joke, but was too tired to fight. Preston walked beside her and laughed in his mind at how she and Boulder were like siblings; they would fight, but deep down they would protect each other from predators. A blizzard came, and the wolves were barely visible in the storm of white. Flurry couldn’t tell which way was which, or if she was even walking in a straight line, but she tried to keep the same direction as long as she could. Her pack followed silently behind her. They couldn’t stop, if they did in this weather, they would freeze to death or be buried quickly and silently under feet of snow. FrostPack kept on moving. “Run!” Flurry ordered, “It will keep you warmer!” The wolves broke into a run. This kicked up snow behind them and it sprayed into the eyes of the wolf behind them, but no one complained. The night went on, and soon FrostPack had crossed over into the lands of Canada.
Chapter 25 Flurry looked across the Hudson Bay. Instead of seeing the water lapping loudly at the shore, it was all ice and snow. “We have to cross that?” Storm gulped. Flurry nodded, “Don’t worry it’s frozen. C’mon!” She leapt onto the ice and almost expected it to break and shatter right under her, but it didn’t. She turned her face to the north and kept walking, her pack soon followed. The ice under their paws was slippery and they stumbled and fell a couple of times. Feather and Preston walked next to each other. “Oh no!” Feather laughed as she slipped and almost fell to the ground. She grabbed onto Preston’s back with her teeth and took him down with her. They both exploded into laughter, as they lay askew on the ice. Flurry looked back and smiled, then almost fell herself. Boulder tried to race Storm and Bone. “On your mark… get set…GO!” Luna announced, and the three wolves began to run. Right off the start, Bone slipped and fell on his face. He rolled over on his back laughing. “GO Storm!” He called. Storm and Boulder ran as fast as they could, they were about neck and neck, but Boulder was a little farther ahead. The gray wolf almost won, but his front paw went sliding sideways and he fell onto his back and starting sliding on the ice on his side. Storm laughed as Boulder fell, then looked wide-eyed as he gained on her and slid in front of her, without even running! Boulder came to rest at the “finish line” before Storm. He stood up proudly and wagged his tail. “I love the ice!” He smiled. “Yeah, I bet you do!” Storm snarled playfully and lunged at Boulder. The two growled and wrestled until it was time to catch up with the others. Bone stood up and sniffed the air for prey, but there was nothing out here. Dying from hunger, the seven wolves lifted their noses to the cold, winter sky and howled. A cold wind blew and ruffled their fur. Snow began to fall as the sun began to rise. It wasn’t visible, but the land of ice started to glow lighter. “We’re almost there.” Flurry woofed between her howling, “The earth is almost saved.”
Chapter 26 More snow hit, and blasted in their faces. “Tornadoes” of snow twirled around them, and then dropped to the ground at times. “Are we almost there?” Bone grumbled. Flurry kept her eyes on the horizon the entire time. “Almost.” She took a breath as she spoke, “Almost.” “Can’t we rest?” Feather cried and collapsed in the snow. Preston gasped and curled up next to her. “Fine.” Flurry woofed, “We will rest here for a while, but we will have to keep moving again to keep from freezing.” She curled up in a ball and tucked her nose under her tail. Flurry closed her eyes as the pack did the same. Flurry awoke to the sound of sea gulls squawking somewhere nearby. She opened her eyes and saw a flock of ten sea gulls a few yards away. “Boulder, Storm, Bone.” Flurry woofed, “Hunting time.” Boulder, Storm and Bone rose to their feet and shook snow from their fur and began to slowly stalk closer to the birds. Flurry was far ahead of them. Boulder circled the flock of birds as Bone and Strom ran straight towards them and sent the birds running to Flurry. The Arctic wolf felt bad for catching birds, but knew Raven would want her to survive. She leapt into the air just as the sea gulls flew over her. She grabbed two at once! Boulder, Storm, Bone and Flurry repeated this method again and again until they had caught five sea gulls. Then they carried them back to camp at ate happily. Boulder shared his with Luna, since there wasn’t enough for every wolf to have his own. Bone and Storm shared also. The snow stopped falling so fierce for a while as the wolves once again, trudged through the side-deep snow and continued on the journey, but this time with full bellies and higher confidence in what they were doing.
Chapter 27 Flurry heard a small buzzing in her ears. It was the sound of a magnetic field. She sometimes heard it when she had lived in the north, before she went on this journey. She then knew that they had made it to the North Pole. “We’re here.” Flurry howled, “We’ve made it.” The wolves howled in joy to the sky, but their celebration was cut short; the animals of ScarPack began to circle around them. “Well, what is this, the third time we’ve met? Well, I have lost track. All I know is this will be the last.” Moon hissed. Midnight and Eclipse, two Indian wolves, began to circle around FrostPack. Stretch, a Vulture, and Fire, a white raven, flew angrily above their heads. Shadow, the ScarPack leader, stood next to Moon. Shadow’s right eye was bright orange, it looked like a bright full moon because its pupil was so small; you could not see it from afar. His left eye was deep blue and had a scar over it. His fur was not black like you would expect, it was tan. Shadow, a weird name for a tan wolf. “You will not save this planet!” He snarled, “We will kill you first!” Moon laughed and unsheathed her claws, Fire and Stretch began to dive-bomb Feather and Bone, Midnight and Eclipse began to size up their opponents. Flurry had to look away from Shadow’s eye because it was so hypnotic, and Flurry knew he used that eye for more then just seeing. Flurry snarled and leapt at Shadow. “We will kill you!” She sneered and bit at Shadow’s flank. The European wolf didn’t even flinch in pain. Instead, he grabbed Flurry by her scruff and shook her with all he had. Flurry tumbled to the ground. She looked up dizzily, and staggered to her feet. Once she regained balance she charged at Shadow again. Feather snarled and ducked Fire’s attack. She grabbed the bird by her leg and brought it to the ground. It lay there for a second as Feather was about to finish it off, when Fire shot into the air and clawed at Feather’s eyes. The Arabian wolf yowled in pain and tried to back up, but fell onto the ground. Fire took advantage of this and flew at the wolf again. She raked her talons down Feather’s soft underbelly until her body went limp and Feather’s blood stained the ice. Fire laughed. “Feather!” Preston shouted and pinned Fire to the ground. Filled with anger, he bit down as hard as he could on Fire’s neck. The bird squawked in anger, then went limp in his jaws. He dropped the raven on the ground and was about to turn around and help Bone fight, when midnight launched herself at Preston. The battle raged on around them. Preston gasped for breath as the huge wolf had him pinned to the ground. “Say good night!” She laughed and wrapped her jaws around Preston’s neck. Midnight was just about to deliver the death bite, but Preston thought quickly and bit down on her foot. Midnight yelped for a second as she released her grip on Preston, but then snarled and finished the job. Preston lay on the ground with blood staining his fur and dripping out of a wound in his mouth. His blood too stained the ice. Midnight turned around happily, and ran back into another fight. Luna and Boulder fought side-by-side against Eclipse. Midnight saw her chance, and leapt at Luna, knocking her to the ground. Midnight stood over the traitors’ bloody body and bit down hard on her neck. She watched happily as the life slowly drained out of her. “Luna!” Boulder snarled and threw Eclipse to the ground and killed her quickly with his famous death bite, and then he charged angrily at Midnight. The European wolf turned just in time to see Boulder darting at her. He slapped Midnight with an outstretched claw and Midnight fell to the ground. Boulder growled as Midnight jumped back to her feet and pinned the Gray wolf to the ground. Boulder grabbed the front of Midnight’s scruff and bit down until blood filed his mouth. His yellow eyes glowed angrily. The wolf soon went limp, and Boulder crawled out from under her dead body. Boulder’s blood dripped onto the ice as he limped over to Luna’s body. “Luna.” He cried and curled up next to her and laid his head by hers. “I love you, let’s meet up in SpiritPack.” He coughed up blood and closed his eyes. Stretch dive-bombed Bone again, and this time struck him on his shoulder with his sword-sharp beak. Bone yowled and tried to leap at the large bird, but instead his legs gave out beneath him and he fell to the ground. He staggered to his feet again, and then lunged at the bird. The bird was half-way in the air and Bone brought him to the ground. He bit down hard and broke the Vulture’s wing. Stretch screeched and clawed at Bone’s face. The Mexican wolf quickly silenced the bird with one quick bite. Bone turned around, he saw Flurry and Shadow battling, and he saw Storm and Moon battling. All the others have died. He gasped in his mind. He ran across the bloodstained battlefield and leapt at Moon who had Storm pinned to the ground. He grabbed hold of the cats’ pelt and tugged. The Mountain Lion tried to shake Bone off as Storm slipped free from the cats’ grasp. “Thanks.” She yowled to Bone, then charged at the cat’s throat and held on tight. Moon staggered on her hind legs, and then fell onto her back, crushing Bone. Bone coughed as his blood too splattered onto the ice. So far, the blood of four chosen wolves had stained the polar ice, but there was still more to come. Storm kept biting harder on the cats’ throat, until it stopped breathing. Panting and stained with her own, and wild cat blood, Storm limped over to help Flurry who was fighting with Shadow.
Chapter 28 Flurry fell to the ground. Her white fur was dripping with blood, and scratches covered her face. She looked around and saw the fallen bodies of her own, Shadow’s pack mates, and she saw Storm hobbling over to her to help her fight. Their lifeless and bloody bodies were scattered on the battlefield like fallen leaves. She wished they hadn’t died, but was quickly jolted out of her trance as Shadow lunged at her again and clawed at her face. Flurry fell to the ground, and at first, she couldn’t see, but then the blurry image of Shadow appeared and began to grow more detailed. Flurry jumped at him and snapped at his shoulders with her teeth, but missed. Shadow slapped his paw at the side of Flurry’s face. The Arctic wolf almost fell to the ground, but rebalanced herself, and charged at Shadow. This time her claws raked all the way down his side. Shadow snarled and twisted his body, then clamped his teeth down on Flurry’s back. Flurry howled in pain and Shadow threw her to the ground again. Flurry saw herself hurtling towards the ground, so she bent her body and landed stably on her paws. “I will kill you!” She snarled. Shadow bared his fangs, “It’s not over yet!” Storm limped over to Flurry and stood beside her. “We will kill you.” She corrected Flurry. Shadow slowly turned his head to the black wolf. His “Moon eye” was glowing, and before Flurry could stop her, Storm looked directly into it. “No!” Flurry yowled, but Storm was under Shadow’s control. Storm stared at Shadow’s Moon eye; it seemed to speak to her….Kill the white wolf… It seemed to say. Storm turned to Flurry. The black wolf’s eyes were no longer warm and friendly, they were now cold and bloodshot. Flurry began to back up, as Storm walked towards her with teeth bared. Smiling, Shadow sat down to watch. Storm snarled and leapt at Flurry, the white wolf dodged her blow, but she did not counter-attack. This wolf was once on her side, she didn’t want to hurt her! “Storm is no longer with FrostPack.” Shadow snarled as if he had read her mind, “She is now a member of ScarPack.” Flurry knew that she had to attack Storm, no matter how much it would hurt. She closed her eyes, sadly and waited for a chance to strike. Storm snarled and bared her fangs again, Flurry did the same and charged at her “Pack mate”. She secured her teeth onto Storm’s flank and bit down hard. The black wolf yowled in pain as her blood splattered the ground, but she was not yet dead. “Storm!” Flurry yowled and released her grip on the wolf, “Remember me? Come back!” The black wolf ignored Flurry’s calls and picked her up by the scruff and threw her back to the ground. “I…I have to kill her…” Flurry hung her head. She got back to her paws and steadied herself before lunging at Storm. The impact sent them both tumbling to the ground. Flurry quickly fought Storm’s blows and raked her claws on the black wolf’s underbelly. Blood oozed and Flurry felt guilty for killing someone who had once been on her side, but she knew she had to do it. Storm stopped struggling and went limp underneath the white wolf. Flurry looked at Storm’s face, her mouth was open, and her eyes had returned to normal. The trance was broken when she died. “I…I’m sorry…” Storm gasped as she took her last breath. Blood from a wound on her mouth spilled onto the ground. Flurry closed her eyes and howled a short, mourning howl for Storm and all of her pack mates. Her song echoed through the land and across the tundra. Behind her, Shadow got to his paws. “Have you forgotten about me?” He laughed. Flurry spun around and bared her fangs. “I could never forget an evil creature like you.” She snarled and bolted at the wolf. Shadow bared his fangs menacingly and snarled. The two wolves then fought for the future of the planet. Flurry clamped her teeth on Shadow’s flank, this time his blood spilled and filled her mouth. He snarled and tried to shake her off, but Flurry held her grip and flipped Shadow to the ground. Flurry’s belly was exposed, but so was Shadow’s. The European wolf took advantage of that and clawed at Flurry’s stomach. Flurry felt the pain burn deeply, but ignored it and fastened her teeth around Shadow’s neck. Warm blood entered he mouth once again; she closed her eyes and bit down harder. Shadow slowly stopping raking his claws on Flurry’s belly and his chest stopped moving. Flurry released her grip on the dead wolf. His expression was anger, hatred, and rage, frozen in that position forever more. The Arctic wolf limped to the center of the battlefield and looked around. “All of them,” She gasped as blood dripped from her fur, “They all died.” She hung her head and coughed up blood. I’m next. She thought to herself and fell onto her side. “We saved earth though….six from different lands came together and our blood stained the ice…Maybe now earth will be saved…” She closed her eyes and a river of blood flowed from chest and stained the ice bright red. “I’ll see all of you in SpiritPack.” She said, “And you too Raven….My best friend.” She took her last breath. The ice began to glow yellow, and the blood on the battlefield began to disappear into the ice. The fallen bodies of the animals disappeared too, as if the battle never happened. The sky opened and a beautiful, bright sun shown for the first time in a long time. Its warm, peaceful light slowly began to melt away the ice. Then a warm wind whistled across the tundra and was so loud it was heard all around the world. Was it really the wind, or was it the wolves howling from SpiritPack, letting us know they are always there watching over Earth. They were and shall remain, its Protectors.
